Print your invitations on some paper thats been soaked in coffee or tea, this will give an old look to you design, then burn the edges to give it a more authentic look. Draw directions to your house in the form of a pirate style map with X marks the spot (your house) Write words like Ahoy there me matte, and Yee be invited to Captain (name) party for pirates, We will be at Dock (address) and set sail at (time) Come if ye dare. Rub a glue stick over the invitation and sprinkle some sand on the invitation. You could Stick a gold foil covered chocolate coin on the top corner, then roll up the invite and tie it with a black or red ribbon.
Another idea is to use old green or brown beer bottles. Place the invitation in the bottle with the ribbon sticking out so it can easily be removed. Place a label over the ribbon so as it won't fall in the bottle and on the label print a picture of a pirate or scull and cross bone with the guests name on it in pirate language.

Set the scene for a pirate adventure. Turn your room or house in to a pirates cave. Hang up those cardboard skeletons you may have left from Halloween along the walls. A couple of plastic sculls here and there with some fake spider web draped over the chairs and table. Place pictures of pirates and a Jolly Roger flag around the house. Pick up some used wine bottles and place candles in them, light the candles and allow the wax to pour down the side of the bottle. Remember be careful and put out the candles when using them for props at your party. Hang black and gold balloons around the place or black balloons with gold ribbons. Place gold coins in netting bags and tie them to the balloons to weigh them down.
Make your own pirate flag. Get an old black sheet or die a white sheet black. Hang the sheet up on a wall and pin it so most of the creases are out of the sheet. Print off a picture of a pirate flag on to clear plastic like the ones used on office projectors. Then using a projector, project the image onto the black sheet on the wall, all you have to do now is trace over the projected image and hey presto, when you remove the projected image you now have a perfect pirate flag. This is a great trick and can be used to paint any picture on any thing.

No pirate party would be complete without a treasure hunt and finding the chest of gold. To make a pirate chest get an old box and paint it brown and black with gold edges. For the lid curve a piece of cardboard and hinge it with some duct tape. Fill the box with all sorts of goodies, gold foil covered chocolate coins, candy jewelry, jelly beans and the like. cover the chest in fake spider webs and place some plastic spiders and snakes on it. Before the party hide the chest in a secret location in the house or yard. Split up your guests in teams and give them clues to the location of the chest. Put prizes at different stages of the treasure hunt to keep the excitement going.
